Public Schools Across the County Receive Avocado Seedlings

Written by Mercy Kihugu

A total of 4,000 Hass avocado seedlings have been distributed to various public schools across the County. Each sub-county was issued with enough seedlings for 20 schools and every school received seedlings to cover a quarter of an acre.

The beneficiaries are schools with agricultural land targeting 4K clubs in primary and Young Farmers Clubs in secondary schools.

The exercise was officially launched by County Executive for Agriculture Leonard Bor who flagged off the distribution at the Agricultural Training Center (ATC), Soilo.

Bor noted that the exercise will not only help in promoting agriculture among the school-going students but also in strengthening the 4K clubs in the schools.

Furthermore, the county will continue actively promoting agriculture among school-going students through 4K clubs in schools, which not only improves the nutrition of the pupils but also generates income for the schools.

The trees will take approximately 18 months to produce fruits and be ready for consumption and market.

As a result of these efforts, the county will continue to witness a significant increase in avocado farming acreage from the overall acreage of over 5,000 acres.

He was joined by Newton Mwaura the Chief Officer for Agriculture.
